PCSOT.
PCSOT Polygraph Examination Required by Florida.
In Florida, all sex offenders are required to take a PSCOT polygraph test annually to obtain information necessary for risk management and treatment.
It is believed that the PSCOT polygraph testing mandate helps reduce the risk of offenders committing new crimes after they are released, and it increases the public’s safety by regularly examining sex offenders.
It is essential to choose an examiner certified by the Florida Polygraph Association (FPA) and has completed the requirements as outlined in the guidelines. Rest assured, Cox Complete Investigative Agency’s examiner is certified and possesses the requisite knowledge to conduct PSCOT polygraph testing as part of sex offender treatment and monitoring programs.
Why is PSCOT Testing Important?
Many offenders have denial relating to their sexual misconduct. The polygrapher will attempt to break through the denial by asking pertinent questions about the sexual behavior of the offender. Polygraph testing has been shown to help break through the denial stage.
Regular PSCOT polygraph testing monitors the sex offender to determine whether the offender is potentially re-offending or engaging in activities inconsistent with the offender’s conditions of release.
Types of PSCOT Examinations.
- Instance offense exams (IOE) – Conducted as an event-specific polygraph for examinees who deny any or all important aspects of the allegations pertaining to their present sex offense crime(s) of the conviction.
- Prior-allegation exams (PAE)– Similar in design to the IOE above. PAE investigates prior alleged sex offenses (i.e., allegations made before the current conviction) before trying to investigate and resolve an examinee’s history of their unreported sexual crimes.
- Sexual history disclosure exams – There are 2 basic types of sexual history polygraphs to investigate the history of involvement in unknown and/or unreported offenses and other sexual preoccupation, sexual compulsivity, or sexual deviancy behaviors.
- Sex offense monitoring exams (SOME) – Examiners conduct the SOME to explore the possibility that the examinee may have had unlawful sexual behaviors, such as a sexual re-offense during a specified period.
- Maintenance exams – Maintenance Exams should emphasize target questions about compliance or non-compliance with supervision and treatment rules.
At Cox Complete Investigative Agency, our polygrapher is explicitly trained in the PSCOT polygraph to monitor offenders.
The polygraph examination results shall not be used as evidence in court to prove that a violation of community supervision has occurred.
